A long time ago (the 2000s), in a place far away (Wales) I embarked on an undergraduate degree in Fine Art. After successfully completing it at a 2:1 grade, I quickly realised that despite my love of art, games, music and theatre, a career as a creator was not the path for me. Through a combination of imposter syndrome and personal attachment to creative outputs I realised that I wanted to help create, not hold the overall creative vision.
With a bit of a detour into teaching English as a foreign language, fusion energy, ambulance logistics and higher education I studied for an MSc in Management at University of London, Birkbeck and found my calling in the games industry within a business, operations and management capacity, rather than a visual or narrative creation role.
Becoming overall responsible at a greater scale each time, I covered - or was reported to for - Business Strategy, Operations, Finance, Management, Staff Development and Welfare, HR, Hiring, Data, Marketing and Facilities, and I thrived! From being unsure of a career path to a position on the executive team with six direct reports, setting strategy and tactics for a $10 million company.

In addition to day-to-day employment, I served on the Ukie committee and working group for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion for five years, run a free co-working space for indie developers and job seekers, offer free mentoring and CV development and have been invited to countless panels, talks and speaking opportunities.
I've also had the opportunity to branch into other creative industries including board and tabletop games, live games and experiences, education, medical and financial technology.

I currently work as a contractor with two wonderful fellow freelancers at www.foxchickengrain.games, and continue to champion inclusion and work to support and build the in-person indie games community in London.
